A couple of months ago I left my bike parked in Reading (whilst I was attending Reading Festival) for 4 days. When I came back I noticed rust on the back brake and that when braking and below ~15mph The back brake would squeal. I read up that rust can cause these noises and that it would just get worn off by using them, which is what I thought was the case anyway.
Jumping back to the present, they squeal has got louder and I've noticed that back brake disc has some heavy ridges in it. I bought the bike new 4-5 months ago and the front disc is nothing like the back one, totally smooth still. I'm kind of realising it may not have been the rust..?
I should also mention my back brake has always been quite spongy, and I saw a thread on here about that, I might need to bleed my brakes. Could that have been what caused the damage to my discs? Considering the brakes have always been like that, do you think I could claim on the warranty if that was the case?
What could have caused this? I assume that it's to do with the pads and that they will need replacing? As well as the disc b/c I think it's fucked...?

IS their any material left on your pads yes it may be brand new but check anyway, if their is make sure theirs nothing stuck in the material then give the brakes a good clean it could be brake dust making them squeal, and the rear brakes on yzfs have always been spongey ive known several lads struggle to get them to work, the master clyinder is just shit, and if you have pics of the groves in the disk that would help buddy

I don't think it's dust because it's been doing it for a while.. I'll take a pic of the grooves tomorrow, they are basically 1-2mm deep going all the way round the disc, so if you run your finger from the inside to the outside of the disc it feels bumpy

have you material on your pads? I wouldn't know where to look, do I have to take the brake apart? And what do you mean by 'material', like foreign material? appreciate your help, I'm pretty clueless here :S

The material is what is on the pads that wears away over time, which is normal but if you are worn down to the metal it will scrape on the disk gauging it

I think I will finally have some time tomorrow morning to take a look tomorrow before work. Will I have to take the pads off to see?

If its putting groves in your disk metal from the disk could have got onto your pads which wont help the squeek
